Utricularia (Bladderwort)

The trapping organs of bladderworts are small bladders designed primarily to capture tiny arthropods. At the front of each bladder lies a slightly funnel-shaped vestibule, and just behind it an opening leading into the bladder itself, which is sealed by a movable trapdoor. Inside the bladder, specialized glands are responsible for digesting the prey and absorbing the released nutrients. An additional charm of bladderworts lies in their often numerous and decorative flowers.
