Byblis, commonly known as “rainbow plants,” are among the most fascinating carnivorous plants native to Australia. Their name comes from the shimmering effect created by their densely covered, glandular leaves, which sparkle in sunlight thanks to sticky mucilage droplets. These fine hairs act as an effective trap for insects, while the reflected light produces a subtle, iridescent glow.
Byblis prefer warm, very bright conditions with plenty of direct sunlight, along with consistently moist substrate. Some species are annuals, while others can live for 2–4 years in cultivation. All of them germinate quickly, grow rapidly, and flower readily. Their delicate flowers are most often violet in color, and the plants tend to self-seed easily, reaching maturity in a relatively short time.
Thanks to their striking appearance and moderate care requirements, Byblis are a popular choice among slightly more experienced carnivorous plant enthusiasts.
Despite their beauty, they can be somewhat sensitive. We recommend handling them carefully during repotting and, if possible, choosing in-person pickup. Shipping is available, but it’s worth noting that it can sometimes be stressful for these plants, and they may need time to recover afterward.
