Mexican butterworts are among the most popular and beginner-friendly carnivorous plants. The easiest to grow are hybrids like Tina, Weser, Apasionada, Anna, or Afrodite, bred from hardy species such as moranensis, agnata, or gigantea.
Instead of winter buds, they produce two leaf types – carnivorous summer leaves and small, compact winter rosettes. They don’t need true dormancy, just slightly cooler and drier conditions in winter.
They thrive in well-draining, often mineral mixes with little or no peat. Care is simple – think of them more like succulents than bog plants: usually water once a week, less in winter.
