The shape of the pitchers is fundamentally different from the rest of the species of Sarracenia, creates a low, creeping along the ground chalices, which have beautiful red-white-and-green coloration. Latin name suggests the characteristic shape of the ends of the traps that resemble a parrot beak. White spots near the hole of traps is not a coincidence, they are arranged strategically, these are places completely devoid of chlorophyll, through which shines a light into the interior of the pitcher. Insect lured by the sweet nectar, arriving to the opening of the cup, where from the top shadow cast of the dark-stained ‘beak’ of pitcher – fly begins to follow into the light, going deeper and deeper into the interior of the trap.
